Our Story
We may have a new name and a new face, but we're no start-up. We've been around for a long time – 22 years, to be precise. Our team members have many years of experiences spanning a variety of companies and industries. And we all agree that there's one common lesson our experience has taught us:
All companies, regardless of industry, must be innovative to survive and grow.
We've taken that lesson to heart.
We already have a long history of innovation over the course of our 22 years in business. As KnowledgePlanet, we created the world's first Learning Management System in 1994 and brought it online in 1996, at a time when businesses were just beginning to realize the Web's potential. When we introduced our Firefly Simulation Developer tool in 2002, it set the standard for simulation-based learning and changed the way companies trained their adult learners.
Now, though, our world is getting smaller. Web 2.0 technologies and social networking sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, and MySpace have connected us, made us conscious of those connections, and have enabled us to communicate and learn from each other. And, accordingly, corporate learning has expanded beyond the scope of formal learning. In our fast-paced Information Age, people don't just need information quickly – they expect it. They demand it. And they get that information wherever they can…whether from Wikipedia, the co-worker sitting next to them, or an online tech support forum.
With this in mind as we continued to map out our vision for the future, we became intrigued by a company called Shared Insights. Their focus was on developing online communities for businesses, and they were simultaneously spearheading ground-breaking projects like "We Are Smarter Than Me," which used the power of Web 2.0 technologies and the Wiki-based contributions of more than 4,000 people to create a book illustrating how businesses could profit from the wisdom of crowds. We immediately recognized the potential; Shared Insights' technology and ideas were a perfect complement to our own. Merging them together was only logical. It was exactly the direction we wanted – needed – to go in.
We know better than anyone that training and learning have always been an essential part of both careers and businesses. And as long as both people and businesses continue to strive for excellence, they always will be. What changes are the methods companies use to enable learning and to foster growth in their organizations as they try to decrease their costs, increase their efficiencies and their revenues, and satisfy and retain their customers.
When we first unveiled the KnowledgePlanet On-Demand Learning Suite, we included the features we knew companies would need in a learning community: KnowledgePlanet Live, to enable virtual classrooms and discussions. Firefly Publisher, to simplify collaboration and teamwork among dispersed development teams. And our Virtual Customer Center community, to enable our customers to come together in a secure environment, learn more about our solutions, and learn from each other how they were using those solutions to solve their business needs.
The world has changed – and so have we.
